Coastal and Estuary

We work on recreating and restoring intertidal habitat within the Tees Estuary and restoring native species. We are currently looking at creating seagrass meadows and re-introducing native oysters to the Tees but are also researching other mariculture which will improve the health and condition of the water as well as mitigate the impacts of climate change.

Seagrass Reintroduction

Intertidal Habitat Creation

This project is concerned with the construction of retaining structures to allow sediment to accrete and form steps of intertidal habitat, something that is much lacking along the banks of the River Tees. This project is a pilot, exploring options for intertidal habitat creation using natural materials as much as possible. (Click picture for more information)

Mussel Restoration

The next project we hope to begin is the restoration of Blue Mussels (Mytilus edulis) and Horse Mussels (Modiolus modiolus) in the estuary (Click picture for more information)
